If you haven’t heard of the Microsoft Power Platform by now, it’s time to get up to speed so your business can too. Read on for a quick introduction to the business tool that’s been making waves in the tech community, and find out how it can help your business bloom.

What is the Power Platform?

The Power Platform can be described in three simple phrases. Robust power, intelligent design and insightful business tools. These encapsulate what the Microsoft Power Platform is all about.

So, what exactly is it? The Power Platform consists of three cloud-based Microsoft apps. Power BI, PowerApps and Flow. The three apps work together to allow the user to bring data together into an easily understandable format that can drive business decisions. The platform enables the user to analyse their data, act on it, and then automate their business processes based on those data insights.

The programs work together as an innovative, connected business platform. It has been designed with the knowledge of just how important data is within businesses. For example, social media engagement and web traffic. Organising and harnessing that data to gain insights is valuable when making big decisions. After all, how can you know who to target for your next ad campaign, or which gap in the market needs filling, if there isn’t any data to back up your decision-making process? Get onto the Power Platform now so you’re using your data to reliably drive business outcomes.

The Power Platform
Let’s take a closer look at what each of the three programs do individually.

Power BI

Put simply, Power BI is a business analytics tool that helps you visualise your data, analyse it and gain insights from it. Power BI puts Business Intelligence into the hands of the end user. Users can build reports and custom dashboards to display important data relevant to their business. Power BI essentially turns complicated data into comprehensible visual insights, enabling users to make informed decisions for their business. The program lets users explore and analyse their data, and then share those explorations securely with colleagues via customised dashboards and interactive reports. Dashboards can even be published to the web.

PowerApps

PowerApps is the go-to tool to use when it comes to mobile application development. Described as the “citizen application development platform”, it allows anyone and everyone to build their own app without having to be a professional app developer or coder. The point-and-click approach to building makes it foolproof, and anyone can successfully make their own app, from the CEO to the factory floor worker. Users can choose from templates and go on to customise them, or build their own apps straight from a blank canvas. Once built, apps can be easily published to the web, iOS, Android and Windows 10.

Flow

Flow is a program that allows users to create and automate workflows and tasks. Flow seamlessly connects multiple applications and services. It empowers the end user to automate tasks and kick off a series of workflows. For example when you add a new customer to a SharePoint list, using a flow, you can automatically add the client's details to your Blog List in MailChimp so they start receiving your blog posts. Flow can be used to collect responses from a survey, and email them to the relevant manager. It can be used the sync your Outlook and your Google calendars, kick of an expenses approval process, automate stock order process and the click of a button. The possibilities are endless.

How do they work together to form the Power Platform?

These applications are all powerful in their own right but when combined they can truly push your business and productivity forward. Power Apps can be used to gather data. Flow can kick off related workflows. Power BI can then present the data in meaningful ways and highlight where actions and critical decisions are required. We can also begin with data and create sophisticated apps based on the insights we gain. The Power Platform gives the end user the flexibility to analyse, create and automate without coding expertise. What could you do with this platform?

Very detailed. Might be good to have a shorter higher level course, i found this course to be a little too detailed, as I am already very familiar with SharePoint. More time on Flow would have been good and less time on other functions -SharePoint Site Owner Brisbane
