Introduction to R for data analysis

R is a programming language specifically developed for the statistical analysis of data and for producing graphical output. The functionality of the base R package is greatly extended by user-contributed packages which contain a range of functions. There is often more than one way to achieve an outcome in R. This remote course provides an overview of the basics and introduces some of the functions and packages that can be used to work with data. The aim of this course is provide a foundational understanding of R, particularly R syntax, data types and objects.

This R training course will be hosted by Tamara Shatar, PhD. All participants will be invited to log in to this class from their own device, wherever they are located. The class size will be limited to ensure all participants will have time to ask questions and engage with Tamara throughout the course.  The content will be the same as our in-classroom training for the Using R Beginner course. It will involve working through a range of exercises that give you an opportunity to practice writing R code, use a variety of different functions, produce graphical output and see the results. What is Remote Training?

We offer some of our more specialist courses in a remote format. At Nexacu, this means you will learn the same content as you would in our classrooms and the same trainer will deliver training but all students will log in from their own premises and device. Our Data Scientist, Tamara will host the Data Analytics training sessions, walking you through the basics of R and answering questions and encouraging discussion along the way.

What is R? 

R is an open source and free programming language that was developed for statistical analysis and production of high-quality graphics. It has long been popular with statisticians and academics who make up part of the large active user community behind R. This community has contributed over 15,000 packages that extend the base functionality of R, making it easy to implement a vast range of techniques for data manipulation, analysis and visualisation.  

Why Learn R? 

Rather than being a point and click tool, R is a language that is used by writing reusable scripts, enabling automation and repeatable workflows. Because it is a language, it offers a huge amount of flexibility in manipulating data and the ability to write new functions. Even without a background in programming, it is relatively easy to get up and running once you know the basics.
